Pat was appointed CID trainer for Tower Hamlets in 2004, responsible for training all
new and existing staff in Criminal Investigation skills. This included responsibility for
training 50 new investigators. Pat devised and delivered a one week training programme
which encompassed all the necessary skills and techniques required by an investigator in the 21st century.
Pat also delivered training in the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence
Act, 1999. The course, "Achieving Best Evidence", is delivered
to mixed groups of police officers and social workers, thereby improving
collaboration between partner agencies.
As a trainer, Pat Introduced innovative techniques such as workplace tutorials, designed
to ensure that knowledge and understanding were internalised by students, thus increasing
professional confidence and ambition, and ensuring consistent high standards were
maintained. Additionally, Pat identified that the quality of statement taking
and the presentation of evidence at court were consistently poor, and
developed training to address this shortcoming.
